Reviewer: Doris H Hayner (see more about me) from Ogden, UT USA
This is a fun read and I am reminded of the "Thin Man" series of yore, Nick and Nora Charles along with their dog, Asta. In "High Intensity", we have the wonderfully romantic sleuths, Tyber and Zanita, their cat, Hambone, and their "over the edge" cook, Blooey (a former Mathematician who now thinks he is a Pirate). We met Tyber, the Physicist-Genius and Zanita, the Reporter in "High Energy". This time, they are asked to investigate another mystery at an Inn on Martha's Vineyard, boasting a culinary-obsessed Ghost, secret passages and a variety of other odd characters who are believers or non-believers in the paranormal. We know Tyber and Zanita to be absolutely made for each other, however, Tyber is inspired to sensual inovation and delectible seduction in order to prove to marriage-wary Zanita that what they feel for each other will not suffer just because they say "I do". This is a wonderfully lighthearted story, not weighted down with the burden of history, nor the complicated world of Joy's Matrix Series (much as we love those books). One can only hope that there will be a new Tyber and Zanita adventure in our future.

"Deputy District Attorney Samantha Kincaid walks into her office in Portland's Drug and Vice Division one Monday morning to find the sergeant of the police bureau's vice unit waiting for her. A thirteen-year-old girl has been brutally attacked and left for dead on the city's outskirts. Given the lack of evidence, most lawyers would settle for an assault charge; Samantha, unnerved by the viciousness of the crime, decides to go for attempted murder. But as she prepares for the trial, she uncovers a dangerous trail leading to a high-profiles death penalty case, a prostitution ring of underage girls, and a possible serial killer. And she finds her judgment - not only in matters of the law but in her personal life - called into question."--BOOK JACKET.

"Bible John" terrorized Glasgow in the sixties and seventies, murdering three women he met in a local ballroom - and he was never caught. Now a copycat is at work. Nicknamed "Bible Johnny" by the media, he is a new menace with violent ambitions. The Bible Johnny case would be perfect for Inspector John Rebus, but after a run-in with a crooked senior officer, he's been shunted aside to one of Edinburgh's toughest suburbs, where he investigates the murder of an off-duty oilman. His investigation takes him north to the oil rigs of Aberdeen, where he meets the Bible Johnny media circus head-on. Suddenly caught in the glare of the television cameras and in the middle of more than one investigation, Rebus must proceed with caution: One mistake could mean an unpleasant and not particularly speedy death, or, worse still, losing his job.
